How to declare independence from an empire stellaris

Playing on Insane level w/o ironmode.

Lost a war and been subjugated by the overlord.

Expanded my empire trice bigger than the overlord. Beat the Unbidden and be the story of century.

Still the Overlord superior advance overwhelming resource.

How to get independence from this overlord? or should I start a new game(hope not)

One of my leaders already 600yrs old. Not dead yet.

tried once. lost. he brought his friends.

although my fleet overpowered them from the stats more than 5k.

I think maybe I should wait for other technology unlocks. But it seem all the technology unlocks available for now to low specs.

Or build bigger fleet?

Don't just look at the numbers. It can give you VERY, VERY wrong expectations. Look at his ship designs. A counter design can kill up to 4x its "number value" in enemy ships.

See what guns he uses, what defences he has. Then design your ships to kill his.

How to counter build:
If you see missiles on his ships build point defense.
If you see lasers build shields or crystal infused hulls.
If you see projectile weaponry build armor.
If you see armor build lasers, crystal throwers and plasma throwers.
If you see shields build torpedoes, ion disruptors and projectile weapons.
If you see hangars build point defense and flak.
If you see plasma throwers do not build armor.
If you see ion disruptors do not build shields.
If a majority of his fleet is corvettes pick ship sections with lots of small weapon slots so you can shoot more of them rather than "overkill" them with big weapon slots.
If you see a lot of big ships or you know the fight will involve an enemy defense station then get large weapon slots.
Also, corvette swarms are overpowered if you emphasize the evade stat.

Lastly, be sure totake into account the range on your weaponry. Crystal throwers and auto cannons are very short range weaponry so mass producing those on ships means you must get real close in order to use them so do not put them on ships with low defenses.

People need to stop perpetuating this myth

Kinetics and lasers do no more or less damage to shields. They both do 100%, but kinetics have a slightly better base dps. Lasers do slightly more to armour (though not much) overall they are near identical one has better accuracy other has better range

Also building fleets to counter the AI is risky, as it will happily remodel its entire fleet if you stack a particular build if you develop all torps for example cause he uses shields, next time you meet them after the first engagement hell suddenly be stacked with PD.

Best way to beat AI imo is a balanced some would say sub optimal build.

Rod, you were looking at it backwards. It's not the shield damage he's countering, it's the armour penetration. If he had used anything else, the lasers would have cut through easier since they have decent armour penetration so shields is a better counter than armour.

I was in a similar situation, but I foolishly asked to be his vassal. Only to find out that "Your overlord does not allow you to colonize", "Your overlord does not allow you to anything". ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Spent 10 years building up a fleet that could rival his. Put everything together moved to his homesystem, declared war and wasted half his fleet (he split his guys), wasted the other half later and barely made it out alive.
